Geena Davis' character in Commander-in-Chief did well in portraying Rossiter's roles of Presidents: Chief Councillor/Listener, Commander-in-Chief, and Chief Executive. The character deserves a score of 8 (out of 10) as Chief Counsillor/Listener because she listened to what the Speaker of the House, President's staff, and her family thought she should do if the President died. She didn't take all of the advice but she did listen. She also councilled the President on what she thought should happen. She councilled his chief of staff, his wife, and her husband as to what would happen next. She let the American citizens know that this has always been "her" country and as she takes office, she will put her all into the presidency.
As commander-in-chief, Davis receives a 9 because she took control of military meetings immediately to show the public that they would not have to worry about a "soft woman" and sent troops to Liberia within the first couple days of her administration. She showed the Liberian ambassador that she meant business and advised her military staff the same way.
As a chief executive, she gets a 10. She did what she knew was right in accepting the presidency. She summoned up the know-how when it wasn't there. (She claimed she was never in the loop with the former President.) She carried out administrative duties like a true President and carried out a successful State of the Union address after it had been sabotaged. She met with her Cabinet and was hard-nosed in asking if anyone else wanted to resign or if they were still no the former President's teamà now her team.
A woman president should carry out Rossiter's roles like Davis' character did. She showed that a woman president didn't have to be soft in military matters-that she could "play ball with the big boys," and do what needs to be done. She councilled but she also commanded her staff and the U.S. military.
