Whatever generation you belong to, you will no doubt have listened to the classic song, Puff, the Magic Dragon. Younger members of the baby boomer generation grew up wishing they could be Jackie Paper and have a best friend like Puff to take to the magical land of Honah Lee. It is likely the boomer generation's kids also had that magical fantasy while growing up. But then, your magic world is crushed. You lose your innocence and have to face the adult world. (CLICK HERE to view a live performance of Puff, the Magic Dragon by Peter, Paul and Mary.)

Lenny Lipton wrote the poem behind the classic song in 1959. Peter Yarrow set the poem to music and the 1963 recording of Puff, the Magic Dragon by Peter, Paul and Mary reached #2 on the Billboard charts. Now, singer/songwriter Peter Yarrow is introducing the legendary song, Puff, the Magic Dragon to new generations. Barnes & Noble has announced the publication of Peter Yarrow's new children's picture book with CD.

In a major publishing event, Lipton and Yarrow for the first time, have allowed their classic song to be published as a children's picture book with CD. The new book, Puff, the Magic Dragon, features illustrations by Eric Puybaret. The CD includes musical performances of Puff, the Magic Dragon and other songs, by Peter Yarrow, his daughter, Bethany, and cellist Rufus Cappadocia. Members of Barnes & Noble can purchase the product for $10.56.

You can meet Peter Yarrow during his Barnes & Noble August Author Appearances in New York City, Washington D.C., Bethesda, MD, Fairless Hills, PA, and Skokie, IL. Members of Barnes & Noble can purchase the product for $10.56. At the Barnes & Noble web site, you can watch an exclusive video interview with Peter Yarrow and listen to an audio clip of Peter and Bethany singing Puff, the Magic Dragon.

I'm glad to hear Barnes and Noble is re-releasing it. I say something to my kids or neices and nephews and they are clueless. Simple times and simple songs. Great news and excellent reporting on the history.

Yep... bored idiots with holier-than-thou attitudes existed even way back then to make shit up and try to tell others how to live. I'll be buying this one ;)

Oh you just sent me on a time-warp to my bedroom in 1970! I forgot about the drug association- what a song.

I remember when all the publicity back in the 60's generated so much speculation...so funny what people can read into words and song..;) Thanks for the great article

This is such a wonderful, imaginative song. It is terrible it got tarnished by those ridiculous reports of hidden drug associations.

I often sing the tune of Puff with my own made up lyrics in the shower and during housework. Sometimes I do it in stores and other public places without thinking about it and embarrass myself endlessly.
