A voluntary nationwide recall has been announced by Dent Fresh U.S.A., Inc., a Miami Florida based company, involving all 9 oz. (255g) DentFresh Fluoride Mint Toothpaste made in China in accordance with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). These products may contain the poisonous chemical diethylene glycol (DEG). The poisonous chemical DEG, used as a solvent and in antifreeze, is a depressant to the Central Nervous System. The poisonous chemical DEG is toxic to the liver and kidneys.
The FDA stated that it is not aware of any U.S. reports of poisonings from toothpaste containing the poisonous chemical DEG even though the FDA is troubled that continued exposure to the poisonous chemical DEG may cause possible risks in certain groups of people, including children and individuals with kidney and liver disease. While toothpaste is not made to be swallowed, unintended swallowing or ingestion of toothpaste containing the poisonous chemical DEG has a small but significant risk of toxicity and injury to these groups of people.
Consumers are asked to discontinue using toothpaste containing the poisonous chemical DEG. DentFresh Fluoride Mint Toothpaste 9oz (255g) should be thrown away or returned immediately to the stores from which it was purchased.
In view of this recall, the FDA has asked all retailers too immediately examine their inventory and remove all 9 oz. (255g) DentFresh Fluoride Mint Toothpaste made in China from their shelves. Retailers are also asked to identify and notify all customers of this recall who have purchased 9 oz. (255g) DentFresh Fluoride Mint Toothpaste made in China from their store.
The voluntary recall of all 9 oz. (255g) DentFresh Fluoride Mint Toothpaste produced in China is made with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. To date, no complaints of injuries or illnesses have been reported to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration resulting from the use of the 9oz (255g) DentFresh Fluoride Mint Toothpaste containing the poisonous chemical DEG.
