New owners recently purchased the Banana Curve diner in South Waverly Pennsylvania and since Ray and I had heard so much about the new owners, we decided to make the trip up there. We are very glad we made the trip. Ray and I took a cab to the diner on Tuesday July 17, and had a nice relaxing time in the restaurant's Americana décor. We sat down to a clean table, and we promptly waited on by Toni, one of the new owners.
We ordered our drinks, Ray got a coke and I had a root beer. We took a few minutes to decide what to eat, breakfast sounded good, and one can get it served all day, which is a nice touch. However, we both thought that dinner was a better choice.
The main entrees all sounded very good so it was hard for me to make a choice there. Ray decided he would get the ground chuck special and I decided upon the hot chicken sandwich.
We sat back and talked and took notice of the décor, we both liked the stained glass windows that separated the dining area from the kitchen. Hanging spider plants brought a nice homey touch as well; the whole restaurant is very down to earth and comfortable.
There is a counter where you can set to eat as well as booths and tables. There is plenty of seating available to accommodate a good size crowd. The diner was very clean and not at all typical of diners across America.
Within ten minutes our dinners arrived, and looked very good to say the least. My hot chicken sandwich and homemade mashed potatoes smelled wonderful. There was plenty of chicken in my sandwich and it was covered with a rich gravy that all just right. The mashed potatoes were good, as well. The food was seasoned to perfection so I did not have to add salt or pepper to either.
Ray said his homemade French fries and ground chuck steak were excellent as well. The vegetable was carrots, which tasted good as well.
The portions were very big, and neither of us had room for the homemade deserts they offered. This is a welcome change in a world where skimpy portions are the norm. Let me tell you the deserts sounded very good as well, different types of pies were the bulk of the desert menu.
