Not everyone goes to college close to home. For many people, going to school means you get away from your family, allowing you to do whatever you damn well please. It will be a very unique experience at the time, but there are definitely drawbacks to attending school far from home.

Yeah, yeah, you may miss your family at times, but I'm talking about the important stuff - like sports! Let's say you are a die-hard Tampa Bay Rays fan (if you are, then you have one of the strongest wills I have ever seen) and you are going to school in Ohio. Unless the Rays are playing the Indians, there is no way you are going to be able to watch the team play, especially if you live in the dorms.

Sure, you can pay to get an MLB package on satellite if you have your own house or apartment at school, but how many people really have that kind of money in college? And it's not like you are going to see Tampa Bay on ESPN any time soon. That is, unless they are playing the Yankees or Red Sox (the teams that national television networks assume everyone would kill to see). But even then it is rare - very rare.

So what are you going to do? Luckily, MLB.com offers a number of options. MLB.TV allows fans to watch all of their favorite team's games as long as they have a computer with an internet connection. These games are live and automatically come with Gameday Audio (I'll get to that one in a minute). Yearly, MLB.TV costs $39.95, but it only costs $14.95 for a monthly subscription.

On the other hand, you can just receive Gameday Audio for a yearly price of $14.95. These games are also live, and you can choose between the home and away broadcasts. As an Indians fan, nothing compares to the way Tom Hamilton calls a game, but it is also nice to hear how other broadcasters do their work.

Takeaways
  • Everyone needs their baseball fix.
  • Going to college far from home may prevent you from seeing your favorite team.
  • Luckily, there is something you can do about it.
