How many times do SEC football coaches need to run their mouth about how tough their conference schedule is? Trying to get these guys to shut-up about this issue is like trying to keep Pacman Jones out of the police blotter.

Last year it was Urban Meyer politicking pollsters for his Florida Gators by theorizing that a one loss SEC team deserves more consideration than an undefeated team from another conference. Now LSU's Les Miles has started the talk again a good month and a half before the 2007 college football season even begins.

Speaking at an LSU function in New Orleans in mid-July, Miles stated: "I would like nothing better than to play USC for the title. I can tell you this: They have a much easier road to travel. They're going to play real knockdown drag-outs with UCLA and Washington, Cal-Berkeley, Stanford - some real juggernauts there."

"They're going to end up, it would be my guess, in some position that if they win a big game or two, they'll end up in the title game. They've got it good out there. I would like that path for us. I think the SEC provides much stiffer competition.''

Why did Miles bring this up? Well, most experts are predicting a LSU - USC title game. If LSU does not live up to the high expectations Miles wants everyone to know that it is not because of him or his football team, but because they play in the SEC. Miles wants all the glory if they win, but the blame on his conference schedule if they should fall.

However, I am a bit confused by his argument. Miles must have a very short memory when it comes to the SEC providing "stiff competition." Especially SEC teams versus the USC Trojans the past five years.

In 2006, USC blasted Arkansas, the eventual SEC West Champion, by a score of 50-14 in Fayetteville. The 50 points was the most scored on Arkansas at home since 1919. In 2005, USC put up a 70-17 win over Arkansas at the Rose Bowl. The 70 points was the most-ever put on the Razorbacks along with the 736 total yards by the Trojans.

In 2003, USC handed Auburn its worst season-opening loss with a 23-0 win at Auburn, and in 2002 the Trojans beat the Tigers 24-17 in Los Angeles.

Almost everyone that follows college football knows that the SEC has probably head above heels over other conferences the toughest one out there. I think the problem lies with that there are great teams out in all of the conferences. I understand that USC tries to schedule tough non conference games, but that is to make up for the lack of true competition within their own conference. Coach Miles was only trying to make the point that the SEC should have to listen to idiot sports writers questioning why SEC teams schedule non conference games against not so outstanding teams. The main fact is that we don't have conference games that we can treat as game situation practice as other conferences do. Nobody is trying to put down USC and their achievements, but it is disconcerting when some idiot takes comments out of text and tries to make a point. And by the way Mitch Mustain left the Razorbacks because he needed a team that would allow for his type of playing style. I will be reall

Hmmmm, let's see...BCS Top 5 - Missouri (Big 12), West Virginia (Big East), Ohio State (Big 10), Georgia (SEC) and Kansas (Big 12)...Where is USC (PAC-10)? I will tell you exactly where they are...getting schooled by the likes of Stanford. I thought Pete Carroll said this was the "best recruiting year ever." This has been the best year for college football by far and this is what I love most about college football! I am a diehard Notre Dame fan and was praying for a historical year...I will be more specific when I am praying in the future.

You are an idiot. If LSU's performance so far hasn't convinced you of their strength, and your comment that "no SEC team would go 59-6" with USC's schedule is ridiculous. Besides, noone is contending that USC is not a tough team; the contention is that the remainder of the Pac-10 usually sucks. Granted, Oregon potentially could have a good team this year. Cal has some true speed, but I was at the game, and UT (with Ainge being unable to throw downfield due to the pinky injury and Coker not even present) still managed to stay in the game until the last minutes...and Cal had some monstrous big plays for TD's. The remainder of the Pac-10 is a joke. What a great showing from UCLA against Utah. Come January, supposing USC makes it, I am predicting LSU does to USC what Florida did to the over-hyped Ohio State last year. 2003 LSU would have destroyed USC's supposed championship team as well.

Well SEC fans you may have to explain just how tough you conference is when South Florida can beat Auburn at home, not to mention that Missouri beat Ole Miss at home too. Obviously playing on the road in the SEC is not what it used to be. Also, my Wyoming Cowboys have even won at Ole Miss (2005) and USC has defeated Auburn and Akransas at their place too, yet the Tigers and Hogs couldn't quite get it done in California..and you can add Tennessee to that as well. And YoMamma how do I know an SEC team couldn't go 59-6 playing USC's schedule?, well that is because no SEC team has come close to that record and most SEC teams open up with cream puffs like Western Kentucky and Western Carolina. Meanwhile, USC is playing out of conference games with Nebraska, Notre Dame and Arkansas. Yes I said Notre Dame, even you can admit that the Irish are a tougher team than Western Carolina?

Wow, you really set off the difficulty of the Trojans road schedule by adding the ever so over-hyped Notre Dame. Do me and every other true NCAA football fan a favor and erase their name from any "Tough teams to beat" list. How do you "KNOW" that there is no SEC team that could have put up a 59-6 record? Has this happened in some alternate dimension that only you have access to? I prefer to recieve my sports information from somebody that doesn't jump on the hype bandwagon every time a team wins a couple of games.

Yeah, i'm not sure how you believe that USC has a tougher road. You readlly didn't prove anything. If you want to prove something, something worthwhile, why not explain how USC deserved the championship the year LSU truly won it? Good luck.

Yeah, I'll take the Bulldogs in the SEC this year...and speaking of the SEC...I HATE THE MANNINGS!!!!
