On October 4, 2006, our President George W. Bush signed into law H.R. 5441, the "Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act, 2007". The House of Representatives in response to not only the terrorist attacks of 9-11 but also the more recent natural disaster, Hurricane Katrina, proposed this act. The act will allow for more funding to go to the Department of Homeland Security and to FEMA, in attempts to create more preventative measures and to respond faster to those in need. While the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA have been headline news for quite a long time they were uncomfortable silent before such events occurred. It is truly amazing how after the attack and hurricane people were quick to say they had warned this person and that person, but where the people who could actually do something about it warned. People are very quick to point fingers when there is a problem they cannot solve, but someone needs to really step up to the plate.
The lack of supplies in New Orleans, Mississippi and Alabama after the hurricane cannot be blamed solely on President Bush. The lack of supplies has to do with the lack of awareness to the actual force of the hurricane and the lack of preparedness. The people of the area were given close to three days warning about the severity of the storm and yet thousands remained and actually refused to leave, and it was those people who were quick to come crying for help and even faster to blame Bush. However last time someone checked President Bush did not control Mother Nature.
Of course in response to that comment was the entertaining, 'the hurricane was caused by Bush's environmental policy'. Seriously, the excuse is very doubtful and has yet to be proven. Nevertheless, the people certainly needed help, but as the Bible teaches us those that do not help themselves cannot be helped.
