Lance Armstrong, Livestrong Present Iowa Presidential Cancer Forum
A discussion forum featuring the 2008 presidential hopefuls from both the Democratic and Republican parties has been scheduled for next month. The Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) released the information today that
Livestrong will act as host to the two-day event in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Candidates will have a chance to go on record to reveal their policy in regards to the fight against cancer.
Lance Armstrong, champion cyclist and cancer survivor, will moderate the discussions. He stated that "Cancer is non-partisan. It's the number one killer of Americans under 85. It's time for all presidential candidates to let us know where they stand on the issue."
The Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) was founded by Lance Armstrong in 1997 before he knew he would even survive the disease. Diagnosed with cancer at age 25, he began the fight of his life and also began laying the groundwork to organize a Livestrong army to unite citizens, government officials, and cancer organizations across the country in the fight against this disease and to make it a national priority.
Livestrong.org , the official website for LAF, provides information and tools for people battling cancer. It acts as a bridge between the known and unknown and what is done to prevent death and suffering caused by this disease. The LAF believes that there is unity in strength, knowledge is power and attitude is everything. 560,000 Americans die from this disease each year and Mr. Armstrong has a strong objective for this discussion forum. "Candidates discuss the #1 killer in this country just as they would discuss war or terror or taxes--why wouldn't they talk about the #1 killer of this country. I think that whoever wants to be Commander-in-chief aught to answer the cancer question."
