I'd like to give you the notation I'll be using in this article for the poker cards before hand. I use the standard notation in the form of Ks for the king of spades where the first character is the value of the card 2-9, T-A (T is for ten) and the second character is the suit of the card, s for spade, c for club, h for heart, and d for diamonds. With that out of the way, let's begin.

Suppose you're playing a $200 buy-in game with blinds at $1/2 and there are ten players. You've noticed that the guy three seats to your right, who we'll call Bill for discussion's sake, is a somewhat tight player who is pretty weak after the flop. What I mean by weak is that he won't stay in a hand if he doesn't have a good hand, and he won't make plays back at you very much if he thinks you're bluffing. Bill is an ideal target for a pre-flop semi-bluff.

The cards are dealt and you're in the cut-off position (one to the right of the button). It's folded to Bill who raises to $6, the standard table preflop raise. It's folded to you, and you look down at Kh 9h. Normally you would muck right away, but you've decided to make a play at the pot since Bill is a pretty weak player. You re-raise to $18 in hopes of taking the pot down right away, but even if Bill calls, you still have a somewhat decent hand, plus you're in position.

A lot of the time Bill will fold right away if your read is correct, but sometimes he will call. The pot will be $39 on the flop, and you'll be making a continuation bet of about $25-30 on most flops since most of the time Bill, being the weak-tight that he is, will check to you no matter what he holds. Obviously sometimes Bill is going to hit top pair top kicker or a two pair hand or something else fairly big, but the vast majority of the time he will miss the flop, read you for a big pair or something, and fold to your continuation bet.
