While pregnant with my fifth child I decided to have a tubal ligation. Since I was already having a cesarean section I figured I would have it done while I was already having surgery. Everything went great at the birth and the nurse even showed me the section of tubes they had removed. I went about my life never expecting to get pregnant again. Almost nine months later my husband and I were on our way out for our anniversary dinner and I started feeling sick. A few days passed and the upset stomach didn't go away. I remember thinking if I hadn't had my tubes tied I would think I was pregnant. After awhile I realized I hadn't had my period in a really long time so I started counting the days. I figured out I was over two weeks late. I talked to the nurse at my doctor's office and she advised me to go ahead make an appointment for later that week and to take a home pregnancy test. I went right out bought a test and took it. It was positive. So I took another test. It was positive. I called the doctor and demanded an appointment the next day.
At the doctor's office he informed me that one in a hundred woman get pregnant after a tubal ligation. He also said he didn't consider it a success till a woman went five years without getting pregnant. He ran some test and told me they would call me back within a few days with the results. I went thru alot of emotions about finding out I was pregnant again. My husband, family and friends told me this was God's way of saying I wasn't done having children yet.
I had just started to accept the pregnancy and even started getting a little excited when I miscarried a couple days later. I called the doctor and was scheduled an appointment that afternoon. When I got to the doctor's office they informed me that I most likely had scar tissue in my fallopian tubes and I probably had an ectopic pregnancy. I was watched carefully and told to start birth control in a few weeks.
