While pregnant with my fifth child I decided to have a tubal ligation. Since I was already having a cesarean section I figured I would have it done while I was already having surgery. Everything went great at the birth and the nurse even showed me the section of tubes they had removed. I went about my life never expecting to get pregnant again.

Almost nine months later my husband and I were on our way out for our anniversary dinner and I started feeling sick. A few days passed and the upset stomach didn't go away. I remember thinking if I hadn't had my tubes tied I would think I was pregnant. After awhile I realized I hadn't had my period in a really long time so I started counting the days. I figured out I was over two weeks late. I talked to the nurse at my doctor's office and she advised me to go ahead make an appointment for later that week and to take a home pregnancy test. I went right out bought a test and took it. It was positive. So I took another test. It was positive. I called the doctor and demanded an appointment the next day.

At the doctor's office he informed me that one in a hundred woman get pregnant after a tubal ligation. He also said he didn't consider it a success till a woman went five years without getting pregnant. He ran some test and told me they would call me back within a few days with the results. I went thru alot of emotions about finding out I was pregnant again. My husband, family and friends told me this was God's way of saying I wasn't done having children yet.

I had just started to accept the pregnancy and even started getting a little excited when I miscarried a couple days later. I called the doctor and was scheduled an appointment that afternoon. When I got to the doctor's office they informed me that I most likely had scar tissue in my fallopian tubes and I probably had an ectopic pregnancy. I was watched carefully and told to start birth control in a few weeks.

my wife had tubal ligation in August 07. Pregnant by end of September! We got 6 weeks out of it, which I think may be a world record! Anyway we have a beautiful 5 month old boy now who is just perfect! She had her tubes removed this morning and the sugeon says the clips on one side had become removed.

I am a mother of 2 girls, only a year apart. I was in a terrible relationship when I got my tubes tied. Another child with that awful man would have spelled the looney bin for me! He and I got a divorce, and I'm now with the man I dreamed of and never thought possible! We want a baby SOOOO bad. I had no idea how beautiful the thought of a baby could be when you really love the person you're making it with! Luckily, my children are almost 8 and 9 years old, so the differences in upbringing shouldn't cause resentment. We WILL get pregnant... and it will NOT be Invitro! I was going to make up a story with my doctor that my clipies hurt me, but I found out that a tubal reversal is possible for about $5,000! Well worth it, I say! It would be done with the intention of fertility if I don't make up a story. I thought I was looking at a LOT bigger bill than that! REGRET IS THE WORST SIDE EFFECT OF TUBAL LIGATION!!!! It was very convenient at the time I needed it, but I was only 21

I am surprised at how many people this has happened to. For a long time I thought I was the only one. Back in the mid-80s, I had a tubal ligation and it failed. Fortunately, it wasn't an etopic pregnancy. However, I was NOT happy about it. In fact, I went into depression and the stress really hurt my marriage. We eventually opted for adoption but since the damage was done the marriage failed anyway 3 year later we divorced. People who knew about it treated me like a pariah. I was asked "how could you give your child away? this was a sign from God." I didn't believe it then and I don't believe it now. I only wanted one child and that was that. What really makes me angry about this is how organizations like Planned Parenthood who I went through do NOT give full information. They do NOT tell you that one out of ever 100 or 1000 women have failed tubals. They say "virtually" 100% effective...and if you try to sue for malpractice, they sic their big dog lawyers on you! I had it done a 2

I am 29 and have three children, my tubes were tied 19 months ago and I am late this month with my cycle and have had tender breast last week, so I am wondering is it possible that my tubal has failed me already.

Came across your article whilst researching the chances of falling pregnant after having your tubes done. I am a 41 year old woman with 3 beautiful children (oldest being 16 & 1/2 yrs and youngest 9 yrs old. I had my tubes done (clamped) 9 months ago. Whilst on the waiting list and just prior to it being done(waiting list was 12 months) I fell pregnant and made the hard decision to terminate as I was 40 years old and had been through a lot having my last 2 children and mainly I felt I could not mentally go through with raising another child. This decision was gut wrenching for me because I was interfering with nature. 2 years prior to that I had fallen accidently and had actually miscarried. The lead-up to having my tubes done was emotional. I went through a roller-coaster ride...it was very weird and unexpected. It's almost as if you won't be the same woman again....that kind of feeling. I imagine some women go through the same thing when menopause starts ? Anyway, I am now a week

I am sorry to hear what you went thru...thanks for sharing.... I happened upon your story while researching pregnancy after TL My friend just found out she is pregnant nearly 5 years since she had hers with baby #6 and possibly 7!! I am keeping my fingers crossed since I had a different dr.-the last exam I had was 4 years ago and was told that the dr. that did my procedure appears to have done a great job, I am going on nearly 8 years since my surgery so keeping my fingers crossed. IF it happens the little one would be welcomed. I firmly believe every child that has made it regardless of birthcontrol I was on was meant to be here and if I STILL got pg after "a permn." procedure then it too was definitely meant to be here. I don't regret my decision to have made this permn as all my pregnancies ended in hospitalization if not m/c. I have 3 kids youngest being 7 1/2 yrs old. I had my procedure done when he was 4 weeks old only for my milk to dry up 3 weeks later, and a seri

Wow...I can't believe that happened.

My goodness, I can imagine through several years it would be a roller coaster ride of emotions.

Thanks for sharing your personal experience. I am also sorry that you had to go through all the heartache and headache as a result of failed tubal ligation. However, sharing personal stories seems to help people who are going through similar situations. Before having any procedure done, you should research it, ask your doctor many questions, and follow up with doctor visits.

Very sorry to hear of your troubles but sharing your experience can help others. Nice job.

WOW! That is the first time I ever heard of a tubal ligation failing. Thankfully, I had one 14 years ago and all is well. I believe my tubes were burned maybe that increases the success rate.
