Being a rock guitar player, my son has the fortune of being associated with some very talented rock musicians in the local North Florida area, specifically our small town of Macclenny. The name of the rising rock band is Soapbox Havoc They are a hometown group of four country boys, making a go of it in the world of rock music.

There are countless young bands trying to make a name for themselves, in hopes of being the next big thing in the rock music industry. It is a shame all of them are talented but only a few will ever make it big and be able to become professional musicians. Soapbox Havoc is one step closer to that goal

Recently, my son saw them perform at a local Christian rock music club in Jacksonville, called the Murrey Hill Theater. The band plays there from time to time. However, recently, they had the chance of a lifetime. They applied for an Internet contest, to find new and creative rock bands to perform at a yearly event called the Vans Warped Tour. It is a major event, and every year the tour is in different cities, basically around the south. The event this year in North Florida was held at the Green Coves Springs Yacht Club, which is about 40 miles south of Jacksonville, Florida. The rock band was chosen out of thousands that auditioned. All they had to do was submit an Internet video and recording of some of the band's most recent material. Listeners voted for the contestants and chose several rock bands to perform on the tour. To their surprise, they were chosen.

While the tour is a large event, local rock bands are invited to the local tour stops to showcase their talent. This was one of the first times that the band has performed for such a large venue. This year, they were joined by some famous local bands. Two of these rock bands were Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and Yellow Card.

The four local boys in the rock band are Josh Wicker, Dylan Gerard, Blake Cannon, and Joel Griffis. The boys call their music alternative rock. They are especially proud as each boy brings his own talent on vocals, guitars, drums or keyboard to the band
