Petty Officer Larry Wisnewski Jr., 28, a member of United States Navy Reserve serving as in the Military Police (MP) just returned from a tour of duty in Iraq. Wisnewski left his tour of duty early based on a medical problem associated with the need to have shoulder surgery. The surgery was performed at a military hospital located in Norfolk, Virginia. Wisnewski brought up a few troubling viewpoints about the war in Iraq.

According to Mr. Wisnewski, Iraqi prisoners receive better treatment than soldiers serving in the war. The prisoner's families are allowed to live close to the base, so that they can visit their family member. Rumor has it that the United States Government compensates Iraqi families if their loved one is detained in one of the many detention centers located throughout Iraq.

Mr. Wisnewski worked at a prison located in Baghdad, Iraq where a lot of violence is carried out on a daily basis. He was scared being over there in a foreign land where most people don't like the United States involvement in their affairs.

The point Wisnewski brought up was the protocol on guarding prisoners that despise Americans. Military guards are not allowed to talk to prisoners. How can we find out information if our military men and women are unable to interact with the prisoners?

I guess government knows everything, but then again if that was the case we wouldn't be there in the first place. An alarming issue is how many military men and women charged with murder when their fighting people that blend in with the locals. Also, if your in a gunfight with the enemy and find them injured then you should be able to shoot them without hesitation or prosecution.

Wisnewski feels like government is more concerned about the prisoners than they are about the military men and women fighting a war with unknown enemies. War is war and casualties happen and no American soldier should be treated as if there the problem. Wake up America the United States Government sent these men and women over to Iraq for a reason.

Jeff you are a funny guy and you must be a military strategy master. First of all so many bullets are fired because there is no front line where you stand facing each other and take turns firing. It is urban warfare, which means lots of concealment and cover with a whole lot of people shooting at each other, but I am sure you would have a one shot one kill ratio. Second of all do you know how many bullets it takes to stop a vehicle Bourne IED that is speeding towards you? Detestable my ass, you must lay in your bed dream of 2004. You weren't there and I was, so get it right and since these numbers do not satisfy you I ask you to get a contract with the government to train us your great tactics to be able to make 5.56 round fly around corners and to bust through walls. Who cares about shoot first ask later questions later, its war and there will always be casualties of war and you are not in the fight risking your ass wondering if the guy near you is going to blow into bits. You don't

Abuse, abuse, bullshit. You go to sleep in your cozy little beds acting like you know something about what goes on there. Do you believe all that you read and hear Second the Abu Ghraib was over three years ago, so get over it because times are different. Detainees are treated very well now. They get coveralls, pants, shirts, man dresses, sandals, shoes, coats, beanies and they mutilate the issue they get. They get air condition caravans that they won't hesitate to burn down when something doesn't go their way and we will rebuild it after clean up. You pitch the bill pal. They get monthly salaries just for being there and most state that they would rather be detainees. They get ping pong tables that are usually modified by the detainees. They get soccer balls that usually have the innards ripped out to make sling shots out of the rubber and toothbrush handles. Shaving razors that are usually returned to the guard with missing razors replaced with foil. Don't get me wrong some detainees

Thanks for the insight. I think the soldiers can use all the support they can get.

Bravo on the right wing talking points, but other than that there is nothing approaching reality in this article. The Nation Magazine recently did an exhuastive investigation of how soldiers and marines treat Iraqis, and found that abuse, racism, and "shoot first, ask questions later" or actually, "shoot first, then shoot again, and usually no questions are asked" To say the prisoners have it better is the most detestable comment of all...and to A.James...there are precious few "grey areas" when it comes to taking life. One report said that our troops have fired 250,000 bullets for every "insurgent" reported killed..a little out of hand, don't you think?

Thank you for your service to this country, and it is good to hear you are safe back home.

I might add to others comments that they should question how a terrorist's passport was found "slightly charred" on the ground of the WTC rubble. Does it seem reasonable that a man that was on a plane that caused a fire so hot it melted steel actually have time to throw his passport to the ground? I believe they closed down the USA school that trained terrorists for foreign countries. You might also question why GWB would give control of our East Coast ports to Dubrai, which I hear is known for having terrorists and why his brother, Neil, has buisness dealings with that country.

Sad that those photos of naked Iraqi men forced to form a human pyramid, stand on boxes with arms outstretched and told not to move were circulated all over the web. The US invasion of Iraq is what caused the civil war. The reason GWB/Cheney and others attacked Iraq has to do with oil, Iraq switching to the Euro which would hurt US in World trade (we are the largest consumers of oil), Halliburton, Kellogg, Root & Brown and so on. It is sad that the young men and women that are killing or being killed think it was to keep us safe. The result was to make the US hated by many nations. God Bless us if they all band together to rid the world of the USA. All our fighting people will be far from home to protect the citizens. Iraq wants us out and we want you home.

Jan I agree with because I support our military and I'm prior military as well. Also, Petty Officer Wisnewski is my half-brother so I do believe what he tells me. War is not peaceful, but many liberals would like it to be.

I think anyone who wants to criticize is welcome to go over and show how it's done better. Go over there and work with the terrorist and negotiate a peaceful resolve. Go over and show our soldiers how to do their job since obviously many here know it better. Our soldiers are owed a debt of gratitude that too many don't even grasp. They deserve better.

Hey we can all have viewpoints right? This is America! I agree with your last comment about "if you're a Fortune 500 employer" You should have added Dick Cheney in there as well.

Great perspectives though I can understand why the guards can't talk to prisoners People trained to interrogate should do that I think. I agree, though, that more support is needed and our soldiers shouldn't have to fear be tried for murder for doing their jobs the best they can. Shame on those in our country who marginalize their situations as black and white and right or wrong. There's a lot of grey they should be given the benefit of the doubt.

I think most of what he said about prisoners was "rumor." Iraqi prisoners are routinely abused by military personnel and contractors. This is fact for anyone who cares to check it out. And troops deployed around the world only makes for more financial insecurity at home which is great...if you're a Fortune 500 employer.
