Newark New Jersey Hairspray Premiere

I was invited to the Newark New Jersey premier of the highly anticipated remake of the new film Hairspray Tuesday evening. Before the guests went in to view the film, there were a host of festivities on Theater Square, at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Around 6 pm the cast started to arrive, and walk down the red carpet, answering a few questions given by two reporters.

Actors in attendance was as follows. Queen Latifah, Zac Efron, Amanda Bynes, James Marsden, Elijah Kelley, Brittany Snow, and Nikki Blonsky. Director Adam Shankman was also there.

At the presentation given before the showing of the New Line Cinema's Hairspray. Newark city officials awarded Queen Latifah with an exact replica of her New Jersey walk of fame plaque. She had a few words of gratitude as well as an important and uplifting message for the young community in attendance.

The movie also co-stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken and John Travolta. The movie revolves around young teenagers in pursuit of a dream. Taking place in the 1960's Baltimore Maryland. A time in American history where there was a strong need for change.

Harispray is a remake of the 1988 John Waters' film version of the widely popular Tony Award winning Broadway musical Hairspray. All three productions having the same title.

Hairspray opens in theaters nationwide on Friday July 20th, 2007.
