The Power of Positive Prose: Can I Change My Style to Get More Page Views?

AC suggests that one of the ways to increase page views is to write on a bunch of different subjects. Most of my articles are about baseball but lately I've been trying to branch out to different topics. Lately, I've written articles about Viking Funerals, Dr. Seuss books and the relative price of gas.

But, I'm always looking for ideas and I'm willing to steal anything that's not nailed down. My online pal Bridgitte Williams has herself a nice little niche, writing product reviews for, among other things, food offerings, health care items and pet products. So, I'm going to try my hand at her bag and see if I can find myself a new audience.

I'm 6'2 and well over 200 pounds and as you can imagine, I sweat when I'm out in the hot North Carolina sun. I'm always on the lookout for a good deodorant so when I found a coupon for a new anti-perspirant called Odorono, I had to try it.

No, no, no - rule number one in product reviews is that it has to be a real product that I've actually used. Okay, let me try again.

As the father of two pre-school aged children, I'm always looking for fun activities to enjoy with my kids. Recently we went to Randleman Park, a sprawling city park complex with two separate play areas for kids. But the tire swing was broken and the slides were too hot to use. Why do they build play areas with no shade? That makes no sense to me.

Wow, Bridgitte always manages to be so positive in her reviews. I think I should start over again.

We recently purchased a Hoover Wind Tunnel Mach 6.1 vacuum cleaner. My wife likes the way it removes dust allergens and I love how easy it is to use and how effective it is at lifting dirt from both short and long-strand rugs in addition to working on wood floors.

Now, that paragraph is just one big lie. We've had that vacuum for years and I hate it. I think I would get more dirt up using a pitchfork. It weighs a ton and it seemingly breaks every other use. It's probably not a good idea to lie in a product review, is it?

As far as pageviews, I no longer care. I would think you would do okay because people do like to read about sports. You write well so need not copy another's style. I know Bridgitte and I may have stopped checking her out due to a long list of product reviews.

I decided I would do book reviews and after accepting the first one, they said they don't accept them unless they are "consumer related". I had to give "How To Get Anyone To Do Anything" a bad review, I could barely force myself to read the whole book, but thought the title was catchy enough to draw attention, so muddled through the whole book. The other reviews I timed to appear at the anniversary of an artists death or birthdate. I thought books themselves were a consumer related product and wondered if AC had ever heard of Amazon.com.

When AC had that call for Product Reviews I did two at the last minute. One of those two is my most viewed articles. One would think that an article with that many pageviews would have lots of comments. It does not. AC has "partners" and I wonder if it is being used elsewhere on the web. Advice to writers is to write what you know and are passionate about. I had to read articles on how to write a professional product review before writing mine and truthfully it was more work than I care to do.

Gee, I always thought that you were one of the more positive, up-beat ones in the family!

Great article! I was so surprised by your mention of my name here that I almost forgot to comment on how funny this article was. It is very entertaining, honest and creative. Way to go! :-)

LOL! Thanks. Brian, I will let you in on my secret! I do best if I write reviews about products that I really like and use. That makes it easy. The same goes for places. If I love a place, I can write all about it. You should look up AC writer Christine Bude and read some of her work. She can write circles around us...lol. She writes many articles and they are great. I do find that a positive article draws more views. You seem to do just fine, though. I enjoy your work. Thanks, for the mention. I am honored. :-)

Yeah, really it should be "available themes starting with the letter A"

I love the related themes listed below your article. I also know you could find something you use regularly for which you could draft a positive review. Peter Gammons' writing, perhaps.
