Windows users users are very familiar with Internet Explorer. Not only is it the default web browser, it is also heavily integrated into Windows operating systems. While Internet Explorer is one of the most used browsers, it does have still competition.

Firefox is an open source web browser developed by the Mozilla Corporation. This browser is known for being one of the better alternatives to Internet Explorer. Just like Internet Explorer, there are a few low points to the programme.

The one thing you notice when you start Firefox is its looks. Firefox has a has a very clean user interface. You are provided with extra buttons and tools that you can enable manually, but the basics are shown from the beginning(forward, back, home, etc.)

The default features found in Firefox include an in-line spell checker and pop up blocker. The spell checker allows you add words into the dictionary, like any good spell checker does. The pop up blocker works as it is supposed to, nothing special to say about it.

Downloading extensions allows the user to add functionality to Firefox. Instead of having the browser bloated with extra features by default, Firefox comes with the bare minimum. This way you don't have to worry about having things you don't really need or use.

The main draw with Firefox other than having better security than IE, is tabbed browsing. This feature allows the user to be more productive in whatever they are doing via the web. this is a Neat feature in any web browser really.

The problem with this feature lies with Firefox's hunger for Ram. By default, This browser is slower than IE. After having it open for a while things become very sluggish. There are extensions and tweaks to remedy this problem, but it remains noticeable.

While there are some really neat things about Firefox, it is far from perfect. While this Ram issue will affect older computers more than newer ones, it is still a notable problem. I world advise all Internet Explorer users to try it out themselves.

I use Firefox, but I keep my IE around for back-up. There are a lot of advantages with FF, but there are also drawbacks, as you stated. I really like it but I will never completely give up IE.
