The concept of a "soft style" may not mean much to those who have no experience in the martial arts. However, the term is very important to those who study and practice certain martial arts. In the world of martial arts there are numerous styles that can usually be broken down into the categories of "hard" or "soft." This essay will further explain the notion of a "soft" style, and in doing so address the qualities of a "hard" style as well. It is important to distinguish and understand the differences between the two concepts in order to find a martial art that suits a particular individual. First of all it is important to address the main distinction between "hard" and "soft" styles, and then further explain the advantages and disadvantages of both. After acknowledging their peculiarities, one will then have a better understanding of what a "soft style" is.
