The Christian Defense Coalition has just ripped Congress for ignoring the plight of the Iraqi people during the Iraqi war debates in a strong statement issued via the Christian NewsWire. Today, the Christian Defense Coalition talked about what it perceives as Congress' failure to adequately address the impact of major military decisions on the future of Iraq and the Iraqi people and reminded Congress of its planned prayer delegation to Iraq in August to call attention to this critical situation.

The statements by the Christian Defense Coalition to Congress are very straightforward and calls the efforts of the millions of Iraqi men and women who have suffered the loss of their loved ones and endured violence in their struggle to achieve peace and security for their country "heroic". By portraying the Iraqi people as men and women who are unable to achieve stability and freedom for their country, the Coalition statement released today accuses Congress of having "demeaned and diminished" the Iraqi people.

The Christian Defense Coalition is organizing a prayer delegation to Iraq in August to call attention to the plight of the Iraqi people and to ask God for help. In a press release issued earlier this summer, the Coalition announced that they've been working closely with the Iraqi Embassy in Washington, D.C. to arrange the trip to Baghdad this summer "to pray for the safety of our troops, the Iraqi people and an end to sectarian violence and terrorism." The Coalition spoke about their feelings and observations about what they see as a critical situation to Al-Maliki, in a letter hand-delivered to the Prime Minister, "What happens in the next few months will have a profound impact on the future course of Iraq, the United States, and the entire region. In response to this critical hour, it is essential that we urgently humble ourselves and look to God for His sovereign grace, blessing and wisdom in all that we do."

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney is the Director of the Christian Defense Coalition. He's directed the following statements to Congress about the Iraqi people:

Jeff, God doesn't cause war, murder, torture, or anything else that is counter to a rich and abundant life! Human beings do. I think it's about time WE accepted responsibility for our decisions and how they impact the others living in the world with us. Blaming God is a cop-out.

While I agree that the Iraqi people have had terrible tragedy thrust upon them by what Mr. Bush started, I find it interesting that believers in an "all-powerful" god could lay blame anywhere but at his feet.
