If you have ever searched fruitlessly for the perfect gift for the morbid history buff in your family, you will appreciate the work of the good folks at Headless Historicals.

Custom Dolls of the Condemned

The artists at Headless Historicals take cast-off dolls, dress them in hand made clothing to represent historical characters who died violent deaths, and behead or otherwise maim them. These dolls, in all of their gory glory, are then offered for sale at www.headlesshistorical.com and occasionally on Ebay.

Because History is Violent

The artists, Garith Pettibone and Shiva Rodriquez, have turned a shared love of horror and history into a money making venture. The pair, with backgrounds in makeup artistry and costume design, use their talents to create the unique pieces of art that they sell at Headless Historicals.

The Condemned

Many of the dolls at Headless Historicals represent historical characters who were executed by beheading. Some, however, died in other gruesome ways--stabbings, poisonings, and automobile accidents, for instance.

Despite the name, not all of the dolls are headless. The artists are careful to consult historical records and create their dolls as accurately as possible. Not all of their subjects were beheaded. For this reason, many of the dolls are headless but some are maimed in other ways.

What a Shame, What Happened to Jayne

Jayne Mansfield is one example. The actress suffered severe head wounds which resulted in the loss of the top of her head in an auto accident. The Jayne Mansfield doll, while not completely headless, suffered the same fate at the hands of Pettibone and Rodriquez.

The Jayne Mansfield doll, which is 30.5 inches high, has already found a home with some lucky purchaser. But her photos and description can still be found at headlesshistoricals.com.
