When trying to come up with a vacation idea, or even a weekend getaway, I'd definitely put going to a hot springs on the list. There are many hot springs areas throughout the world. Hot springs are natural springs where the water comes to the surface of the earth from underground.

This water has been heated because it's come into contact with hot or molten rock while underground. These waters are warmer than body temperature and contain minerals said to be very therapeutic. Going to a hot springs retreat can be very relaxing. You can sooth your tired body and mind, as well as replenish your spirit.

Many hot springs sights are available to the public for free and are situated in beautiful natural settings, while others are in spa retreat settings that offer a variety of holistic treatments and massages as well as the ability to soak in the springs. Prices will vary depending on the type of spa/resort, location etc., so you will really need to shop around to find just the right fit for you and your specific wants/needs.

On my first hot springs adventure, my husband and I took off for Pagosa Springs, Colorado in search of the healing waters of the hot springs there. The drive was beautiful and we were already relaxed by the scenic drive by the time we got there.

We stayed at "The Springs", a hot springs resort. When I first got out of the car I knew I was very near a natural hot springs area because of the strong odor. It smelled like rotten eggs! I can't say you really get completely used to the smell, but I can guarantee that one dip in those hot, therapeutic mineral baths will make you forget all about the mineral fragrance of the sulfur.

The hot pools were arranged in an attractive, terraced setting that overlooks the San Juan River. The soothing, therapeutic mineral springs, the sound of the rushing water of the river, and spectacular mountain views envelope you with a sense of tranquility beyond description.

Thanks so much Aly. Doesn't Hot Springs have a lot of locations? I've read up on that area and of course the name Hot Springs really says it all now doesn't it. :) I'm so happy you came by to read my article and also glad you left your comment.

Great review for a beautiful area! New Mexico and Colorado are among places I have lived. My daughter is in Little Rock, so we have been in the Hot Springs, AR pools, too. I agree with you - they are wonderful places to visit and endulge!

Good to see you again Phebe, and thanks for reading my article. Yes Colorado and New Mexico are both such beautiful places. I'll bet you have a blast with nature photos in Colorado. It's so beautiful there. My husband used to live in Durango years ago and also Silverton (sp?). I would love to have you as a connection, sad to admit that I don't know how to do that. I am really computer challenged and have only been at AC a short time. Wasn't sure this was the right place for me. I am also on Gather and Helium.Gather seems to be the easiest to get around for me, but I haven't really taken the time to figure out AC.

I had to look at where you're from when I saw this article because Pagosa is so little-known outside the four corners area. Great article and nice to see a near-home writer! :)
