With heavy storms rolling through Chicago on Wednesday night, many Chicago and northern Illinois residents suffered the worst by having their power knocked out for hours on end.

As of around 10 a.m. Thursday morning, ComEd said that around 2,900 customers were still without power. Around 900 of those people were in the city of Chicago. Most customers in the dark were just due south of the city. Less were in the western and northern suburbs.

At around 8 a.m. 6,300 people were without power, so that number is down significantly.

"The storms were horrible last night, you could hear thunder for hours. A few times our power flicked on and off and I really thought we would lose power. We have family down in the western suburbs, and they called us to come over to our home in Mount Prospect because they lost power in the western suburbs. Hopefully everyone's power will be restored soon. It's very uncomfortable and humid out today, so you just have to be in air conditioning," said Mount Prospect resident Liz Freedman.

Aside from just power outages, the storms also brought damages to many areas.

"A few trees in this area were brought down by the storms. Some trees just snapped in half and branches and leaves laid in the middle of roads. It was so bad that no cars could get through the street and cleanup crews had to come out immediately. The good part is that no cars or homes were damaged. No people in were hurt either," said Chicago resident Al Porter.

Flights on Wednesday evening at O'Hare and Midway were also delayed because of the storm. Only a few flights were canceled because of it.

"I was supposed to fly out of Midway Airport tonight around 8, but that's not going to happen. I ended up re-scheduling the flight for Friday afternoon when the weather is not supposed to be so bad, at least not as bad as it was tonight. That's Chicago for you," said Chicago resident John O'Malley.
