Best Reading Books for Parents to Read Aloud to Kids: 0 to 3

These are my favorite books for reading aloud to a child who is zero to three years old.

The child books on this list are simple and have very little text on each page. They also lend themselves to child play and adult play.

Best Books for Parents to Read Aloud to Kids: 0 to 3

1.The Carrot Seed

The Carrot Seed by Ruth Kruass is one of my son's favorite books. It is one that he chooses to read every night.

What I like about reading The Carrot Seed is that it is a simple book with an empowering message. A little boys plants a carrot seed and everyone his family tells him it won't grow.

The little boy continues to tend to the carrot seed. Until one day.....a carrot does grow.

The book has very simple pictures, and can be easily read aloud to a child zero to three. A toddler can also pick out the family members in the book.

2. Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? is written by Bill Martin, Jr. and illustrated by Eric Carle. You could have an entire book shelf dedicated to Eric Carle, but if you only have room or money for one, buy this one.

The pictures are intriguing, and the words are fun to read because they are sing-songy and catchy.

This children's book is well written, with great transitions from page to page. It even includes a summary at the end. My son liked this book from the library so much that I photocopied the picture of the cat in the book to hang on the wall above his craft table.

3. Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed

There are different versions of Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed, with and without music. I like reading the one by Eileen Christelow
I am partial to monkeys and I have always enjoyed the song about five little monkeys. Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed is a great book with the monkey rhyme in it. It is a very fun book to read aloud.

4. Mouse Finds a House

Karen Hoenecke is the author of Mouse Finds a House

The reason I like reading Mouse Finds a House is because it is a small, sweet book about a mouse looking for his house. The book is small enough for a toddler to hold.
