The CIA operative who was outed courtesy of Dick Cheney's Chief of Staff Scooter Libby had her lawsuit against the Bush administration dismissed. Despite the fact that Valerie Plame was an innocent victim of a White House plan to wreak vengeance upon her husband Joe Wilson for exposing some of the most outrageous lies told by Bush and Cheney to gain support for invading Iraq, it is she and not Scooter Libby who has been punished more severely. What is most egregious about the dismissal of Valerie Plame's lawsuit, not to mention what is least surprising, is that the decision was made by judge with extraordinarily strong ties to the Bush administration. This is clearly a case of conflict of interest on the part of Judge John D. Bates.

Judge John D. Bates was appointed to his position as a federal judge by Pres. George W. Bush in 2001. Why was Bates deemed qualified to serve in such a lofty position? Many believe it may have been another case of Pres. Bush rewarding people for serving the Republican Party over the interests of the American people. Judge John D. Bates, after all, had been intensely involved in the 60 million dollar waste of taxpayer money known as the Ken Starr Whitewater investigation; an investigation which resulted in a completely exoneration of any wrongdoing by both William and Hillary Clinton.

Great article! Thanks! This is what I suspected. Bates called their actions "unsavory." They were more than unsavory; they were unlawful. They not only risked Plame's life, but everyone worldwide she ever contacted as an undercover agent and any other agent who used the same undercover business name she used. I hope this decision is reviewed again in some other capacity.

Good article. The Admin. risked Plame's life by outing her and compromised the work of the agency. Following the news about Plame and Pat Tillman makes me ill as it clearly shows the devious nature of our government.

Timothy- my response was not a pathetic answer to the "issue". The issue is that Presidents have been increasingly used their power to avoid justice. It isn't a new Bush thing and implying it is makes the Bush haters look like hypocrits. It isn't a "Republican" thing. That's my point. This issue is broader than just Bush. And you're right, our Democratic Congress has done NOTHING to change things as promised. I'd think THEY need to get their priorities straight or perhaps they don't want to expose their own mistakes when opening up investigations? ;) Ron Paul 2008 if you're tired of govt corruption!

Um, A. James, the Whitewater investigation cost this country over 50 million dollars, was prosecuted by several current Bush-appointed judges and, finally, is a really pathetic answer to the issue. What any other President did or did not do is beside the point. As of yet, the Congress hasn't done squat to investigate the known lies--perjury if you view them as being spoken under the Presidential oath of office--Bush perpetrated about Iraq. Get your priorities straight.

Kind of reminds me of Whitewater...the prosecuting DA was a former law student of Clinton as well as a recent appointment of Clinton. No charges were filed. Wonder why. Or how he fired ALL the US Attorneys in a fell swoop and filled the Justice Dept w/his supporters. Talk about cya. This is politics. It's both sides. I'm sick of it. Our govt stopped caring about morals and the people a LONG time ago. Make a change and vote for Ron Paul!!!

This administration wraps itself in the American flag with one hand while setting it ablaze with the other. Somewhere among the cosmic dust Orwell must be whispering, "Okay, I know, the title should've been 2000 to 2008."

How shocking! I think I'll just die of shock! :(

Oh what a wicked web of protection this administration has woven for itself. Good article, wish the national coverage had though to bring this up.
