Review of the Alphabet Pal Caterpillar by Leapfrog

My son received many new toys for his first birthday. He was really in need of some developmentally appropriate toys that would stimulate his curiosity and help him to learn new concepts. One of the best toys he received is the Alphabet Pal Caterpillar by Leapfrog. The Alphabet Pal Caterpillar is a colorful, cute, and educational toy that I have found to be an excellent choice for a toddler toy.

The Alphabet Pal Caterpillar is yet another intelligent toy created by Leapfrog. The legs of the caterpillar each represent a different letter of the alphabet. Depending on what setting the Alphabet Pal Caterpillar is set to, a press of the caterpillar's legs causes it to say the name of the letter, sound the letter out phonetically, play a musical note, or say the color of the foot that is pressed. As your toddler grows and begins to learn how letters come together to make sounds, the phonetic sounds will be a great learning tool. Younger toddlers can begin with color recognition by using the color setting which includes red, green, blue, and yellow.

The musical features of the Alphabet Pal Caterpillar are wonderful for younger toddlers. One year olds enjoy changing the notes by pressing the caterpillar's legs. The music is fun to listen and dance to, and walking toddlers can even pull the Alphabet Pal Caterpillar behind them as they walk using the attached string. The caterpillar's funny "walk" is an extra fun addition to the toy, as is the alphabet song which plays when the caterpillar walks.

As with many Leapfrog toys, the Alphabet Pal Caterpillar is also available in both French and Spanish versions in addition to English. This is a great tool for bilingual households or those wishing to bring their children up knowing more than one language.
