Women are subjected to many stereotypes in today’s society. Movies and television shows suggest that all women are air-heads. Magazine and other advertisements push photographs of very slender and “sexy” women into the minds of children. Men’s magazines write articles on how to “dupe” a girl into sleeping with them. Haven’t we, as a society moved past the sexist ideals of the past? Judging from the way the media portrays women, it seems as if things are only getting worse.

Television and movies shows tend to stereotype women (One of the most common ways television depicts teenage girls, especially, is as a dumb, ditzy girl with a credit card. The girl’s interests are usually limited to make-up, boys, clothing and shopping. Movies such as Clueless, Legally Blonde, and other such movies encourage the idea that teenage girls and women are ditzy, stupid, and superficial.

Takeaways
  • The media depict women in various negative and false ways. This can be harmful to women and chilren.
  • We as consumers must stop buying into these ideals that the media portray.

...Billy Dunton, yes I completely agree. Not only that, You see guys rarely complaint about movies where women kick/beat men. Is funny how they make the women much better fighter against men in any movies, while men(good guys or bad guys) are shown to be careless in fights and women are shown to outsmart men. You can pick any, ANY movies out there. It is always the "weak" woman got scared, trying to run/avoid fights but then become a strong woman and confront the man and of course, without failed, show her in the end killed the man. Oh, but she didn't mean to, she was simply defending herself and therefore, she cries as if she did nothing wrong. This is the sexism that people oversee everyday. Is ok for men to get beat up by women.

Stefanie, in other words, you are interested in getting even. What happen to women wanting equality huh? You(women) are the ones who always complaint about wanting equality. Is this your way of achieving equality? By putting men down? By viewing men as sex objects? This is not an eye for an eye. You are a poor excuse for a woman or a human being for that matter.

Yes we all know about how they use alluring women to sell damn near everything in this world. But what about sexist remarks against men? Right now Quiznos is playing an ad where there is an asian woman stating that that " it's not lacking any meat! And that's what real women need! " Why do they always play these stupid quips? So men that have small sex organs are funny? Well if we are being equal to both sexes then should we see an ad where someone makes fun of women with large sex organs? I know the world is not fair. But is it fair to see all these ad's about male enlargement? Sex sells. We all know that but why do they have to force it down our throats!

I completely agree with your comment about Hooters. I know that if there was a Hooters featuring men I would definetly go. Why don't people try to market men to women? I know there are women out there who would definetly enjoy seeing sexy men instead of sexy women on everything we watch. Us women think about sex too and we enjoy seeing nice looking men istead of beer drinking guys with beer bellies. I think it's about time we stop getting mad and start getting even.

The Pizza Hut commercial with Jessica Simpson sure doesn't do a thing for me other than make me want to order my pizza elsewhere. Commercials like that are meant to capture the attention of young guys. Unfortunately, as long as there are women willing to allow themselves to be exploited there will be companies paying them for the exposure. What a play on words! You sure don't see commercials with scantily dressed men who are carrying pizzas while singing and dancing. Is there a well-known restaurant chain comparable to Hooters that caters to women? I don't know of any.
