My son completed the Mosinee Wrestling Camp yesterday and boy was he tired. Two full days of intense training with the UW Oshkosh assistant coach Justin Lancaster. This is the same coach who ran the Beaver Dam Wrestling Camp the final two days.

The camp flyer lists the "CampPhilosophy: Titan Trained Wrestling Camp focuses on the UW-Oshkosh style of pressure wrestling. The camp will cover: takedowns, leg attack defense, breakdowns, and different types of stand-ups. The clinic will also cover the importance of hard work and having FUN." It was that and then some.

The Mosinee Wrestling Camp cost is $50 and open to all ages K-12. It is hosted by the Mosinee Wrestling Club at the Mosinee High School. Sessions both days run 9:00 AM to Noon, one hour lunch break, then 1:00PM to 4:00PM. That's twelve hours of professional instruction in two days. Considering UW Oshkosh charges $30 a kid for a two day session, the kids receives a camp T-shirt, and they have to pay for the facility this is a very reasonable price for a camp. It also brings in some of the best wrestlers in the area so competition is tough and physical.

Day one was a hard and very tiresome day. The Coaches focused on several "Slide-By" or "Arm-Drag" techniques that they like to utilize at UW Oshkosh. These "Slide-By" techniques help to show some of the finer things that will help make a wrestlers "hand control" work to their advantage against their opponent. The day also consisted of almost three hours of "live wrestling." My son managed to sweat through two t-shirts during the day.

I know day one was a good work out for my son. He was dead tired after the first session and in bed early. The next day he could barely lift his hands above his head without feeling some muscle pains. He wasn't too keen on what the final day would bring.

The final day of the Mosinee Wrestling Camp focused more on bottom work, bottom defense, breakdowns, leg rides, and escapes from the bottom position. Once again the pace was hard and fast leaving many extremely tired and sore come lunch time. As one of my son's older teammates put it: "I feel like I'm going to die."
