"My name is Danielle, I am 26." Do I sound too boring?'. "Hi, my name is Danielle and I am 23". Now I sound too insincere. "Hi, my name is Danielle and I have a bubbly personality. I believe in love at first sight and I am 19." Perfect.Trying to writing a personal ad can be next to impossible for some people. Even for writers, putting pen to paper or their fingers to a computer keyboard can be a source of anxiety, but many people try their hand at writing personal ads anyway, in the hopes of meeting their soul mates, friends, or a lover. If you have a mind to write your own personal ad, here are a few tips that might be useful to you.
Make Sure Your Writing Is Tight
Most personal ads come under a whopping one-hundred words, which is why when writing a personal ad make sure that your writing is tight. To stop yourself from writing a long winded, sloppy personal ad that tells very little about who you are, here are a few tips.
First, make a list, writing down everything that you would consider to be your personal strengths and what, in your effort in attracting the person you desire, do you most want to highlight about yourself. Next, write a draft, look it over to see if you are saying everything you want to say, and if so, are you saying it well.
Tone
The tone of your personal ad will say a lot about you. However, if the tone of your personal ad is not a true representation of yourself, it could come back and bite you in the tush. If you are going for a playful and youthful tone when you are a serious minded accountant, who is about a playful as a pit bull, than the tone of your personal ad should reflect this instead of denying it.
For example: I write a personal ad that starts off like "Me: happy go lucky kind of gal, warm and intuitive looking for true love." After reading that, most people would say that the tone is that of a woman who is happy in her life and probably is comfortable with who she is. Great, but what if you are not that type of person? It is human nature to want to put your best foot forward when trying to find a mate, but you can still be honest about who you really are, but just in an optimistic way.
