Studying Your Way to Success
Good Habits Equal Good Grades
One of the most important things to avoid when studying is an all night cram session. Study ahead and even set up a plan for what you will study and when. Cramming limits our ability to learn material. Our brain can only process so much at a time. This is the reason it is also important to take breaks during your study sessions. A ten minute break in between 45 to 50 minute study sessions helps you re-gather your thoughts. During your break do something that will energize your mind, stretching or snacking is good for this.
Where you study can greatly help with the effectiveness of your study. Lighting and temperature should be taken into account when you decide where you will study. Having more light will help you stay alert. Making sure you are comfortable is one of the more important things when studying. The resources you have around you should be considered also. This would be more important with subjects or projects that require more additional resources. When you find an environment you tend to study better in, stick to it because these tendencies are more than likely not coincidence.
Before beginning your studying sessions, set up an agenda for what you will read or review. Setting goals that you push yourself to reach can be very effective. These should be within reason of course. It can be easy to try to do too much, but we all should have an idea of what we are capable of getting through. Doing difficult tasks first can be key for the ones who do not want to procrastinate. Changing subjects or where you are studying can be a relief if you begin to feel tired or bored with the material. It is also important that we stop when we feel unproductive.
