ForecastFox Provides Local Weather Forecast Inside Firefox Browser
Wherever you live, you probably like having quick access to weather information. For Firefox users, the ForecastFox plug-in provides extensive weather information at a glance inside your browser.
The highly-customizable plug-in pulls extensive weather information based on your zip code from AccuWeather.com and translates the forecast into icons that you can place at one of several locations including your bookmark bar, navigation bar, or menu bar. I have mine on the right side of
my bookmark bar.
Currently, I have ForecastFox displaying four icons. The first icon is a radar graphic that when moused over shows me a thumbnail of the local weather radar for my area. The next icon has the current weather - it shows a sun and a cloud to demonstrate the partly cloudy weather typical of the south on sultry summer afternoons such as these. I have text turned on next to the first button displaying the status ("Partly Cloudy") as well as the temperature in Fahrenheit (fear not, metric heads - you can optionally use Celsius).
The third and fourth icons show the forecast for the next two days. With all the icons, you can mouse over them for tooltips with information like the high and low temperatures and the wind speed.
By clicking on the icons, you can bring up more detailed weather information from AccuWeather.com.
There are several options for customizing ForecastFox. First, you can pick whether to show graphics or text for each for each of the individual buttons. You can also opt for both graphics and text.
The tooltips that appear when you mouse over each icon are completely optional as well - if you do decide to use them, you can chose whether they have graphics or just text.
One very handy feature of ForecastFox is its ability to display weather watches and warnings such as tornado warnings or flood watches. This way, you'll always have warning inside your office when rough weather is approaching outside.
