For several decades there had been a gradual rebuilding and refurbishing of a section of Washington D. C. 's East End by members of a group called the Pennsylvania Avenue Development Corporation. The area spans a swath of the city halfway between the White House and the Capitol , just north of Pennsylvania Avenue. The idea was to revitalize this rather central neighborhood by drawing in more shops and restaurants and giving a face lift to some of what was already present.
In 1997 Verizon gave real inspiration and impetus to further development of the area when it opened the new Verizon Center in the Penn Quarter Since that time building projects have increased and more businessmen have jumped on board as the Penn Quarter neighborhood has experienced a real boom that has no end in sight. C. and they are, for the most part, happily in the midst of it all.
