Always on the lookout for a new place to eat, I finally took a friend's advice and made the hour long drive to Prairie du Sac, WI in order to try out a restaurant there; the Blue Spoon Café.

Named after the blue spoons used in Culver's Frozen Custard (at least that's what their Web site claims), the Blue Spoon Café is a hidden getaway for those who are looking for a decent meal at a fair price. And, I mean hidden. The restaurant is located in a historic building on Water Street and I almost drove right past it because it blends in with the other buildings around it.

From the outside, the restaurant really doesn't look like much. My first thought when I saw it was it reminded me of the small café in our down town area. However, once I got inside, I was impressed with how much space there was and just how beautiful their dining area was. If I didn't know better, I would have sworn I was eating at an expensive restaurant in the early 1900s.

Their prices were pretty affordable and they offered quite a variety so it was a little hard for me to choose. I finally decided to give their Quesadillas a try along with the salads their Web site had advertised as being "renowned for being fresh and sumptuous." Both were pretty decent. I've had better Quesadillas but, considering it wasn't a Mexican restaurant, that's forgivable and the salad was one of the freshest I've ever gotten when dining out as was the pastry I got for dessert.

One other thing that impressed me about the Blue Spoon Café was the service. I'm pretty picky when it comes to that and have stopped going to restaurants over bad service in the past. However, the staff at the Blue Spoon Café was very friendly and willing to do what it took to keep me happy and get me to return. And, even though it did take me an hour and a quite of bit of gas to drive out there, giving them my repeat business isn't totally out of the question. They offer just enough to make it worth going out of my way (though it would be for lunch only since I wouldn't want to drive some of those roads after dark).
