My Top 10 Peeves at the Doctor's Office
I have a lot of health problems and see a lot of doctors, and unfortunately the same things keep happening over and over at each doctors office. Maybe I'm just being a whiner and this stuff shouldn't bother me. But they DO bother me ... I guess that's why they are my
pet peeves. Following are the top 10 things that bug me about doctors offices. I wonder if they bother anyone else?
Sitting in the waiting room at a doctors office for anything over 15 or 20 minutes
I can't understand why the staff in a doctors office can't seem to figure out how to book their patients so that everyone can be seen in a timely manner. The patients time is just as valuable as the doctors time ... and when someone is feeling bad the last thing they want to do is sit around in a hard chair when they could be at home curled up in a comfy spot.
Waiting all that time and then you only get to see the doctor for 5 minutes
This relates somewhat to my first pet peeve. Maybe the receptionists are lonely and that why they book people back to back, knowing good and well the doctor can't possibly see everyone at once. Then once the doctor does bounce in the room, he stays about 5 minutes and he's off to greet the next patient.
Having to fill out the standard questionnaires in the reception area, then having to answer the same questions over again to the nurse when you've finally reached the next staging area
Is this double questioning really necessary? Are we being tested to make sure we really know what we wrote down? Do they think maybe we've changed our mind in the hour or so that we sat in the waiting room?
Doctors or their staff who can't speak English
As an American living in America, I expect my doctor and his staff to be able to communicate with me in my native language if they are practicing in America - 'nuff said about that
Having to sit in a cold office with nothing on but a paper gown waiting to see the doctor
Come on people, at least give us a warm blanket or hot cocoa. Better yet, give us long robes made from actual material and not paper. And even better, don't keep us waiting for hours in the cold offices and waiting rooms.
