Many hotels are accommodating travelers with four legged friends, but few offer the canine accommodations that Westin Hotels do. A dog owner myself, I look for dog friendly hotels as a rule since my two year old Bishon Frisé, Truffle, is most always by my side.

I've been a fan of Westin for a long time. Aside from their terrific services, I'm hooked on their Heavenly Bed. You can imagine my delight when I discovered they have a Heavenly Bed program for dogs. While it's up to the individual hotel's discretion as to whether or not they permit our furry friends, more often than not, they do.

Westin's newest and 150th property, opening this August in Lombard, IL, will allow dogs weighing 40 pounds or less. Dogs weighing more than 40 pounds may be allowed at the hotel's discretion. Of course, people with disabilities that require a dog are permitted at any size.

This brings me to the Westin Heavenly Dog Beds, which can be reserved at the time of the room reservation. In addition to the Heavenly Dog Bed, guests receive food and water bowls, a floor mat, a dog-in-room sign, and a welcome kit that includes a list of services available through the Concierge and Service Express, ASPCA Pet Friendly Traveling Tips, cellophane waste bags, latex gloves and a dog ID tag. In some cases, leashes, collars and dog food (wet and dry) are available.

The Westin Lombard concierge will be able to provide a list of local walking and sitting services with a bonded/insured provider, locations of the nearest runs and parks, contact information for 24-hour veterinarians, a list of local grooming services with same-day service, and locations of local pet stores.

Guests with dogs are required to provide a credit card guarantee at check in. If damage to the room is discovered after the guest departs, the guest is responsible for these additional charges.
