Pier Six Seafood and Steak House: Review of the Macclenny, Florida Restaurant

Pier 6 is a funny name for a restaurant that is in Macclenny, Florida, which is 70 miles from the beach. I can confirm that there are no Piers anywhere in Macclenny. So where did the restaurant come up with it's name?

According to the manager of the restaurant, many years ago in the little sea faring town of Boothbay Harbour, Maine, there was a feud between the lobestermen and other fishermen in the county. They were arguing about who would get the prime fishing location along the seashore. There was no room for lobster fishermen, shrimpers, and regular fishermen in the same small area. An all out brawl erupted and some say there were at least 70 fishermen involved in the massive fight. It happened along pier number six on the docks, so in that are of Maine, a brawl to this day is called a pier sixer. Years after that brawl, a restaurant was opened in the same area and was called Pier Six.

The owner stated that 40 years ago the chance came for the purchase in Macclenny, Florida of a prime piece of property along Highway 121, right off of interstate 10. So he purchased it and decided on a seafood and steak restaurant. Thus Pier Six Seafood and Steak House was born

The goal of Pier Six has been to keep fresh seafood and steaks affordable for families in the same rural community of Macclenny Florida. They are of course only open for lunch and dinner, but are open seven days a week, and are only closed for major holidays. There specialty that brings people in by the crowds, is their three dollar lunch special. I know readers find that difficult to believe, but it is true. You have the option of popcorn shrimp, fish fillets either fried or broiled, or clam strips. Along with your fish you receive home made fries, coleslaw, and hush puppies. People in the community frequent Pier Six for lunch as it is the best and cheapest lunch around. You can't even go to McDonald for that. I have eaten all three for lunch, and have to say they are all wonderful. But the popcorn shrimp is the best.
