The Truth About Myspace Trackers

Understanding the Hype About IP Statistics

You've seen your friends posting numerous ads in your bulletins lately. And you have probably fell for some of these seemingly harmless trackers, that claim to give detailed statistics on who has been viewing your Myspace page. But do me, and everyone else who
uses Myspace, please do not install programs to view who is looking at your page on your MySpace site. Anyone who uses such codes/programs are compromising the safety and security of the whole network. This is the very reason why Myspace works to vigoursly to ban and block such attempts to track page visits.

They are ingenious little programs that let you see who's been peeking at your MySpace site, but the huge downside is that it IS spyware and creating an open door to your computer as a platform for hackers. Even if you have a firewall in place or a hardwired router; you have now done their job for them by happily copying and pasting the code into your Myspace which allows access into personal information. As soon as you copy and paste the code into your profile, hackers now have full access to your IP address and the IP address of anyone who is on your site. Furthermore, anyone who is familiar with intermediate level html/java will understand what the code does. Unfortunately many Myspacers trust various sites that post up code for them to alter the layout of their profile, and before you know it your Myspace is an advertisement of various sites, and susceptible to hackers.

There is an easy way to get the ip of your visitors that works 100 percent and is not a security risk. You can get your own website (I use cpanel hosting) Then you can put a picture on the site and link the picture to it on your myspace main page. You can check your latest visitors and look for hits for the picture and you will have the ip at least. If you want to know who the ip belongs to then that is something I am not sure about.

The fear of MySpace Trackers being portals of spam is totally overblown; does MySpace block trackers? Yes - but then the MySpace tracker sites just change their codes and they work again. No big deal. Hey anyone that's tried to install Windows XP with the ethernet cable plugged in knows that there's vulnerability all the time when you're connected to the net. Someone having your IP address doesn't change that. Anyway, here's a decent explanation on how these MySpace Trackers work http://www.profilesnitch.com/about-myspace-trackers.php

i could say so many things here in light of the original posting person but i digress.I will say however that i do work for inTel computer corp here in parsipanny NJ. And the person who posted the article..... is absolutely correct. Some of you are getting it wrong. He isnt saying you need to stop using the tracker because people like him dont want you to know he was looking at your page. That is completely NOT the reason. He was posting information that you have opened ports on your computers TCI/ IP communication that tracking bots automatically look for on the net. They might no specifically be scanning for your IP range at the moment but that doesnt mean they wont find it eventually. To the person who says "Something is a miss..." Because you have a small number of friends and ONLY they can see your blogs..... here is the reason why. The only thing actually search able inside of a MySpace website design is your BLOGS. Each time someone does for example a GOOGLE search

Um, this is the most stupid post I have ever read (ever). There isn't an ounce of truth in here. Did myspace pay you to post this? There is absolutely NO WAY that a CODE ON YOUR MYSPACE PROFILE is a back-door to YOUR HARD-DRIVE... Do you know anything at all?

I spent all night trying to figure out how to remove the lovely spam or whatever some site did to my page (I'm sure you all recieved a nice little add from me well not me but my name) If it happens to you there is a very simple solution A) change your pass word duh huh yea I'm slow B) to remove the add from your blog space (and this took me 2 hours to figure out lol) first go to edit your blog's appear. go down to custom header and remove the tag u'll see it and save then go back to home and go into your blog through safe mode and delet the comment that contains the exact same code.... Ta Da I couldn't find one site on the internet that could explain that to me lol I had to figure it out on my own so I must be smart DDDDDer :) well maybe this will help someone else out so post n re post so it gets around to all your friends and their friends and so on ......... I honestly think that you should be able to track who is visiting your page. It's your page, and if I want to know if Tom is looking at it 50 times a day, I should be able to. I currently have 7 friends, 3 of which are bands. Yet I have gotten 120 blog reads (to a blog set so only my friends can read it) to a blog that visitors can't read. I haven't gotten any friend requests either. Something is amiss here, and I want to know why. I have a good idea, but I want to know for sure. You guys who say you should be able to run around freely and not be noticed are just pussies. So what if the owner of the profile can see who looked at their page......BIG DEAL!

whoever wrote this article please go die. u have shown the intelligence of a lawn chair and obviously know close to nothing about computers. knowing someones ip address falls very short of hacking and anyone that thinks this is an invasion of privacy shouldnt even use the internet cause anywebsite can find it.
