I am a born and bred resident of the state of Virginia and have been for 34 years. I have found that there are a great deal of things to do in Virginia for free. I thought that I would share with you some of these free things for you to enjoy the next time you find yourself in Virginia with very little cash on hand.Fredericksburg National Cemetery- This cemetery is located in Fredericksburg,Virginia, this cemetery is where you will find the burial places of the brave soldiers whom fought in battles such as The Battle of Fredericksburg, The Battle of Chancellorsville, The Battle of The Wilderness and The Battle of Spotsylvania Court House. If you are a history buff or just interested in cemeteries in general, you will definitely find this cemetery interesting. Cost for visiting the Fredericksburg National Cemetery is completely free.
Virginia State Capital- The Virginia State Capital is located in Richmond, Virginia. The State Capital is free and opened to the public Monday through Saturday from 8:30 until 5:00pm. Within these walls a wealth of knowledge awaits you. You can learn of such things as the Houdon Statue, which is a wonderful life-size statue of George Washington. Or The Rotunda, The Jefferson Room, The Old House Chamber, The Old Senate Chamber, The House and Senate Chambers, The Fouquet Capital Model or the new extension that was built. A must see for all legislative or history types.
The Blue Ridge Parkway- Virginia's Blue Ridge Parkway is approximately 469 miles long and it connects Shenandoah National Park in Virginia with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. Remember to slow down and enjoy the beautiful view of Virgina's Blue Ridge Parkway but don't forget to keep your eye on the road as well. The Blue Ridge Parkway is located near Waynesboro, Virginia. The Parkway consists of 6,000 acres in which you may find things such as visitor centers, camp grounds, picnic areas, trails and ,concessionaire-operated lodges, restaurants, and other facilities. The Parkway itself is free, however it does cost to use the other facilities.
