I'm quite sure there are a number of locations folks boast of having ideal living conditions all year long. But, if you have never been to Virginia Beach, Virginia, you haven't found the ideal location.

Let me state up front that I am a New Englander by birth. Actually, there is an old saying that I will have to admit is true. "You can take the girl out of New England, but you can't take New England out of the girl." That does not alter the fact that, having lived in Virginia Beach for the past 30 years, even I am willing to admit this is the ideal place to live. Given the choice of shoveling snow, or cutting grass all year, I'll take the grass cutting any time.

To begin with, we have water everywhere. We have the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay at our doorstep. At the oceanfront we have events from spring through fall, other than the usual beach, resort strip, vacationers, hotels, restaurants, and various entertainment spots. We have sand volley ball tournaments, East Coast Surfing competitions, Boardwalk Art Show, and we wind down the summer season with Neptune Festival.

In addition to the above mentioned activities, we have wonderful fishing in this area and folks fish just about year round. And since we have a splendid Marine Science Museum, we have whale watching boat tours for an up close and very personal look at these marvelous creatures.

At the Chesapeake Bay, known as "Chicks Beach", we have the "Low Rent Regatta" which is a takeoff on the huge regatta held at the oceanfront. It's a spoof of sorts because to qualify for the "Low Rent Regatta" one only needs 'something' that will float. Lots of fun and lots of laughs. The Bay boasts lovely beachs that rival the oceanfront and has the added charm of a spectacular view of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel... all 17 miles of it.

In addition to all this waterfront, we are blessed with NAS Oceana which is about the largest Naval Air Station in the country. In addition to daily displays of flying expertise by our highly trained navy pilots, we host a number of air shows throughout the year.
