Could Oscar the Kitty Really Predict Death?

Oscar Cuddles Up to Dying Patients in a Nursing Home Hours Before Their Deaths

Did you read about the creepy kitty cat that is a harbinger of death for the seniors in a nursing home in Rhode Island? His name is Oscar and he is a gray and white cat that is not a very social or affectionate cat. He has been adopted by a nursing home
there for those with Alzheimer's and senility. '

At first it seemed to be a coincidence but after about twenty deaths they began to take this little predictor of death seriously. He would go in the room of the dying patient and climb up on the bed with them. He curled up by their sides. Within four hours the patient would pass on to the other side. The nurses and doctors got so when they saw the little affectionate bundle crawl up next to a patient, it was time to call the family in. Oscar is seldom wrong. When one family didn't appreciate Oscars' attendance to their loved one and booted him out of the room, Oscar meowed and cried outside the room.

I told my husband about this and we both decided that if we saw Oscar coming we would run the other way. Assuming we could run with walkers or wheelchairs. Seriously, the patients were usually unaware or unconscious when Oscar came to see their passing. I find the story actually pretty sweet. I do wonder how Oscar was aware of the impending death.

We both wrote an article about this kitty. I'm going to get a rabbit, at least they don't sit next to your bed.

I don't think I would want to be hanging around with Oscar.

I read about this - I'm with you; if I were in a nursing home that had a cat like that, I'd want the staff to know that I am VERY allergic to cats and just having one near me could cause a deadly asthma attack (btw, did anyone check for that???) - and if I saw him coming, I'd be shuffling or crawling the other way. I'm all for animals as therapy, but not like this! I wouldn't want to be in that "care center" (nursing home, I'm told, is no longer a politically correct term - like people with Alzheimer's care!)

Ithink you are right Chris, my dog really doesn't care if i am sick or not she is very independent, but when I had another dog, he would stay close by me for comfort when I was sick.
