As the 5th season of American Idol winds it way down to the finale, there is still one last woman standing. Katherine Mcphee has proven to be a force to be reckoned with as she has sang her way into the hearts of millions of fans. So what is it about "Kat" that makes the crowd go wild? There were several other talented women that have left the stage of American Idol, while Katherine has a firm spot in the top three. A look into the life of Ms. Mcphee shows just how truly special she is, and that she has the staying power and the determination to become the next American Idol.

Katharine Mcphee was born March 25, 1984 in Sherman Oaks, California. Under the direction of her mother, Peisha Mcphee, a vocal coach and cabaret singer, Katharine started singing at the tender age of two. Katharine's mother immediately saw the raw talent that her daughter possessed band began training her. Katharine's father, Daniel Mcphee, is an accomplished producer who has worked on many projects, including television shows. Mcphee also has a younger sister named Adrienne.

Mchpee attended and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 2002. She knew after high school that is was high time to focus intently on her music. Subsequently, she enrolled in the prestigious school of Boston Conservatory of Music. Although Mcphee didn't last long at the school, (one semester to be exact), the education she took with her gave her the confidence to do something incredible. Mcphee decided it was time for America to hear her powerful voice, and headed to San Francisco to try out for American Idol. The judges were unanimous in their decision to send Katharine to the Hollywood tryouts after her beautifully stunning rendition of " God Bless the Child".

Although Katharine has a few good men in the running for the next Idol, "Mcphever" has definitely spread across the nation to millions of viewers. With Mcphee's sultry song voice and classy and her charming sense of class, there is a wonderful chance that American will have another female "American Idol".
