Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling as a Career

In April 2006, I retired from nearly twenty one satisfying and fulfilling years as a nationally certified Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. I was also licensed in the state of New Jersey to practice Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling. Over time as the profession of vocational
rehabilitation emerged and morphed into different directions and specialties, I too, grew with the profession. Vocational rehabilitation counseling is a profession that is not that familiar to many. Whenever I was questioned about my occupation, the inquirer would often confuse nursing and vocational rehabilitation counseling. i suppose the word "rehabilitation" in my job title conjured up thoughts of clinics and hospitals.

Thank you for your vote concerning the Welfare and TANF system. You have my vote on education the public concerning Voc Rehab benefits. I am a disabled veteran and am currently using the Veteran's Administration's Voc Rehab program to obtain my B.S. Degree. I was discharged from the service with a CHF (congestive heart failure) and could not stand the thought of not working or being a productive part of society. I am in the process of establishing a home based document preparation business. No matter what the issue may be we have to choose to either use it as and excuse to live in a 'victim' mentality or overcome it. Thank you for sharing.
