All American Football League National Tryouts Held in Birmingham
The new All American Football League held their second national tryout camp today at Birmingham, Alabama's Legion Field, according to a press release issued by the League through PR Newswire. At the tryouts the League announced the signings of four former University of Alabama
players to contracts. The players are Reggie Myles, Marcus Spencer, Alonzo Ephraim and Ahmaad Galloway.
"The signing of these former Alabama players and our second national tryout camp, which attracted more than 200 players who have used up their college eligibility, represent significant milestones as the All American Football League advances towards its spring 2008 inaugural season," League CEO Marcus Katz said in the release.
According to the League's website, the All American Football League is a for-profit, professional football league. Teams will initially operate as divisions of the League, and football operations will be run by a quasi-independent board and General Manager. Universities with Division IA football programs will host some of the League's teams and other teams will play in independent venues. Games will be scheduled in the spring and early summer beginning in 2008.
Myles, Spencer, Ephraim and Galloway are the first players to be offered and sign contracts and will play for the Alabama team. Earlier this month, more than 350 former college players from BCS programs, including many with professional playing experience, participated in the League's inaugural tryout in Orlando.
Myles was a four-year letterman at Alabama at the cornerback. He played three seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. Ephraim earned three letters at center for Alabama. He played in 43 games in four seasons in the NFL with Philadelphia, Miami and Cleveland.
Galloway lettered four years at Alabama at running back, rushing for 17 career touchdowns. Drafted in 2003 by the Denver Broncos and played in NFL Europe after sustaining a knee injury. Spencer was a four-year letterman at free safety, and was also a 1st Team Academic All-America his senior year.
