In 2004 the Red Sox ended an 86 year drought and finally won Major League Baseball's World Series. The Sox were the toast of the town and the sporting world . Since then Boston fans and baseball fans across the country have kept an eye on the doings at Fenway, waiting to see if the World Series win was just a fluke or if there is more ammunition in the Red Sox armory. As exciting as the Red Sox accomplishments are on the field, it's also encouraging to witness their off the field work for charities and non profits . Are the Red Sox leading the league in charitable donations? That's hard to tell . But one thing is certain, that's the kind of competition with no losers .

Giving, a Good Example. When you take a look at charitable giving coming out of the Boston Red Sox organization , it is inspiring to find that a good example for outreach to the community comes from the guys on top. When John Henry took over the ownership of the Boston Red Sox in 2002, he indicated that he would demonstrate his commitment to the Boston community and he was good to his word.

Shortly after taking over Henry created the Red Sox Foundation, an umbrella organization through which the Red Sox management could funnel their own personal donations as well as donations received from fans across the area to help meet community needs. With a financial commitment of more than $18 million over a 10 year stretch, top Sox brass proved they intended to walk the walk not just talk the talk.

Takeaways
  • The Red Sox Foundation funnels financial assistance from the Red Sox to local organizations.
  • Curt Schilling, David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Mike Lowell and others have their own chariteis as well.
