Qualifying low-income residents of Indiana can receive free legal advice and free legal representation in cases that are non-criminal. This free legal help is available to low-income residents of Indiana through an
Free Legal Help for Low-Income Indiana Residents
 organization called Indiana Legal Services, or ILS for short. Indiana Legal Services is devoted to providing free top-quality legal advice and representation to those who are limited by their income. Whenever possible, Indiana Legal Services provides helpful free advice in an attempt to help low-income clients resolve their problems themselves. All information clients provide to Indiana Legal Services is strictly confidential.

Types of Cases Indiana Legal Services Accepts

The following are examples of the types of cases accepted by Indiana Legal Services for low-income clients. Other low-income cases not mentioned may also be considered if the applicant meets the requirements for low-income free legal assistance and if the case isn't criminal in nature.

Public Benefits for Low-Income People

Examples of public benefits are food stamps, unemployment benefits, poor relief, SSI, and TANF. Indiana residents who are low-income and have been denied benefits such as these may be able to seek free advice and/or free legal assistance through Indiana Legal Services.

Housing Issues

If you are a low-income resident of Indiana and have been wrongfully evicted or are having problems with a landlord, or if you have issues regarding foreclosure, Indiana Legal Services may be able to help.

Health Issues

Health issues regarding medicare and medicaid can be looked into by Indiana Legal Services. Other healthcare issues may also be considered.

Child Custody or Divorce Issues

Indiana Legal Services does not take cases regarding child custody or divorce unless those cases involve abuse. Even if low-income qualifies you to receive help from Indiana Legal Services, non abusive cases won't be considered.

I am totally disabled and get $300 a month SSI here in Indiana. My ex husband was sending $604 a month until October 2007. He retired and quit paying me anything at all. I cannot pay my rent, or bills or get enough food or pay my meds. We were divorced in Florida. I have gotten paperwork to file a Civil Contempt Order from Florida. I am having trouble filling it out. I need help to fill it out. Please help me.

Is there a way to compel a attorney to give information or status of a insurance case to the person that hired them. Its been 10 yrs and they will have to find the file and get back with me. that was a year ago
