Yet another talented poet awaits death by lethal injection in California, due to our barbaric justice system that insists on killing innocent model citizens.

You can read all about Randy Garcia's plight all over the Internet. All you have to do is google Randy Garcia and you will find dozens of web sites defending this 37 year old, and looking for donations for appeals and, hopefully, make him a free man so he can continue with his poetry and never ending quest for pen pals.

Canadian Citizens Against the Death Penalty have provided Randy with a web site where he can exhibit his poetry as well as photos of himself (one draped only in a towel) and ask for pen pals. Randy is lonely in prison, he's been on death row since 1995, after being convicted of murder in 1993. The photos he's posted show a young man about 25 years old; the age he was when he entered death row. Apparently, he hasn't changed them; probably in an attempt to attract more female admirers.

But you'll have to look a bit harder for the crime he committed. And you will not find one memorial page about his victims. The only thing you'll find is a brief summary about the crime.

On May 8, 1993, Garcia broke into the home of Joseph and Lynn Finzel, 29 and 28 respectively. Mr. Finzel was not at home and their baby daughter was asleep in her crib.

Garcia immediately tied Mrs. Finzel to the bed and attempted to rape her. Her husband interrupted everything by returning home, at which time, he was shot by Garcia with his own gun. A gun Garcia found in the house. He then turned around and shot Mrs. Finzel.

In fear for her baby daughter's life, Mrs. Finzel played "dead" for two hours. The bed which she was tied up on was a water bed and the water was seeping to the surface. Not only did Mrs. Finzel have to pretend to be dead, she had to try to keep from drowning. Or crying out as Garcia heartlessly ransacked the house, even stealing the wedding ring off her dead husband's hand.

Thinking his victims were dead, Garcia left the home. It was then that Mrs. Finzel managed to free herself, climb over her husband's dead body and stagger into the street for help, with a bullet lodged in her.

If you know Randy Garcia then you know he is deeply remorseful of what he did. He lives his life just to ask for forgiveness. Randy is a good person with a gentle soul. It is difficult for him to live with this knowning he hurt a family. But he isn't a malicious person. He has a great soul and he is full of love today. Please pray for Randy and for the Finzels that Forgiveness is what we learn from this.

As I sit and read these posts it amazes me. There is a lot more people don't know. They don't know about the 7 year old son Joe Finzel had from a previous marriage. He is now 22 and misses his Dad daily. Joe was a wonderful father and a only child that was taken from his Mother on Mother's Day. This was a horibble tragedy to Joe's family and friends. All the remorse in the world can not repair what Randy has done. As I search the web I see people feeling sorry for Randy. My God do these people have a heart at all? They don't even think about the victims they only talk about poor poor Randy. Well he needs to rot forever in that jail and get what he deserves. That definately isn't living. Yes I am the Aunt to that 7 yr old boy that broke the news to him and his mother. I still get chills to this day just thinking about the way Joe died.

I agree with all the Randy haters below. He is a poor excuse for a human being. He should be put in the hole more often so he can rott like a animal.

Life is full of choices. He made bad choices, he should pay. Punishment should fit the crime. He should pay with his life. How dare he be allowed to have any rights. He took them all away from Mr. Finzel. I'm sorry to say I 'knew' that sad excuse for a heartbeat, years ago. Give me a break. . ."seen the very tears, heard the words while seeing him behind glass. . ." blah, blah, blah! Poor Shit! Don't be such a fool. That is what you are. SPEED IT UP CALIFORNIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have known Randy and his brother since we were little kids. We all partied together for many years, even pulled some petty thefts of car stereos together when we were teens. Since the day he came back to Portland with the FBI hot on his trail did we find out what he had done. Fuck him! I am married with a teen daughter of my own, if some slime ball piece of shit put my wifer and daughter thru this misery while killing me, FUCK HIM die you sick fuck!

you did forget to mention the rape or attempted rape of Lynn Finzel. Randy is a user. He used me too as well as a number of other people. Randy is cute, but his heart is something else. Be careful with this man. His poetry is to use women to send him money in prison.

Randy only asks for forgiveness. He is not evil. He is a beautiful soul.

Although there is absolutely no excuse for the crime. It is not fair to say you know whether he experiences remorse or pain. I can say that he very much feels it every day; I can say he certainly has not attempted to convice me of his innocence. I knew Mr. Garcia prior many years prior to this crime and have attempted to understand why and what happened. I simply gave up on underestanding and as many years as I have known Mr. Garcia he has not made any excuse for his actions - and simply asked for forgiveness. I only wish that the Finzel family knew how remorseful he is and has been. In some way, I believe it matters. It certainly does not change anything but it would matter to me. He does feel remorse, heartbreak and would do anything to undue what has been done. Although he may never have had an opporunity to say how he feels, I know first hand and have seen the very tears, heard the words while seeing him behind glass and read many letters carrying those sentiments. I resp
