What do all of the above listed persons have in common? They are all alumni of Phillis Wheatley High School in the Fifth Ward in Houston, TX. Fifth Ward is located north of downtown Houston, TX and had the nick name of "The Bloody Fifth" due to the high incidents of murder there. The community was historically African American as shown by the list of notable alumni listed above, however this is not the case today.

Currently, Wheatley High School has a very small student body and many of the students travel as far away as Sugarland to attend classes. There are some neighborhood children who attend rounding out the number of students to approximately 800 including magnet students. The process for enrolling a student at Wheatley is very cumbersome and lengthy. So if you plan on your child attending the following information will prove very helpful.
