Parenting Thought of the Day July 30, 2007

You are your child's number one teacher.

Everything you say and do is a lesson for your child.
When in your child's presence, and preferably even when you're not, always be positive.
Your actions speak much louder than your words.
But, remember that your words can also speak volumes.

Speak positive words to and around your child.
Do positive actions with and around your child.

Be positive in everything you do.

Remember that daily life contains small, but important lessons for your children in math, reading, science, and more.
Recognize and implement those lessons into your child's daily life.
Do not neglect to discuss the small things around you, such as a small leaf or a tree frog.
Do not ignore your child's questions.

You are your child's number one teacher.

Thanks for the wonderful comments. Dr. You are so right. I remember more of what my mother taught me and what I taught myself from books and life than I do from school. :-)

Gosh this is so very true. Parents are indeed their children's greatest teachers. When it comes to long-term memory, we may forget a fraction of what we learned in school but we will remember everything we learned from our parents!

Thanks Sophie. They sure do and it never stops - even when children are grown. I know I still learn things from my mother. :-)

You're right. You are your child's number one teacher. They learn from the parents before they learn from anyone else. Sophie

Thanks Mythman. GReat perspective. I never thought to associate it with that, but you would be correct. Thanks for pointing that out. :-)
