Barack Obama Following the Foot Steps of Theodore Roosevelt Who was a Reformer

When Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama speaks about change, those in Washington are more cynical about him, but those in the heartland of America shares his reform agendas.

Today, the Illinois native politician spoke about his 21st century reform agenda to a crowd of over 600 people in a school named after the last century reformer Theodore

 Roosevelt.

Warmly welcomed, Sen. Obama told the cheering crowd that in the past 6 years; more than $1.1 billion of tax dollars has been issued to more than 172,000 dead people as farm subsidies.

He said "That's a problem when your tax dollars are going to dead people. That's not crazy, it is wrong," said Mr. Obama who through his political and private endeavors has demonstrated a strong level of integrity and transparency.

He reminded the crowd that over 100 years ago, Roosevelt took the changes against all odds and helped eased the powerful monopolistic forces that were in Washington by given "the American people a shot at the American dream," Obama pointed out.

Among all the presidential candidates from both parties, Mr. Obama is the only candidate that is not receiving any campaign contributions from lobbyist or political action committees that often set the agendas in the twilight of the night.

And for the Washington crowd, the danger of not getting the free meals, which they are used to in the past 16 years, manifested in their creation of a mounted front to tag Mr. Obama as inexperience and hope monger. The business-as-usual crowd in Washington is constantly strategizing on how to bring his campaign down, but based on what I saw today in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, their strategies may fall on deaf ears.

Mr. Obama also reminded voters in Iowa that when he was a state legislator in Illinois, people were cynical about his resolve to end the massive corruption that was destroying the integrity of the state. In the end, he was able to work out a bipartisan consensus to end the historical waste in the state.

The sad fact here is this: "even though I have little knowledge about TR..." Without historical context you truly can't understand current events. History to a nation is like memory to a human being; if you were to completely lose your memory, you would have no intelligent comprehension of things happening around you. Likewise, without a knowledge of American (and world) history, people end up making completely ignorant comparisons to historical characters they know nothing of, and then folks like you become shocked when you hear "Isn't this splendid" because you have no understanding whatsoever of where America came from nor the Americans that helped to build it. Oh, and the "old fashion way of doing things" is what brought prosperity and liberty to the largest number of people in the history of human civilization. Millions have died for that and you want to trash it? Shame on you.

Great article. One of the things I admire about Senator Obama is he wants to put an end to this "culture of hate", the automatic labeling such as in Oliver's comment. He welcomes dissenting views and civilized discussions. Okay, so none of us is perfect, but Oliver could say "I disagree" without labeling your opinion "ignorant" which is simply his opinion which differs from your own. What I got from your article is "America we can do better than this" which is the comparison I saw you make to TR, even though I have little knowledge about TR. I do, however, have some knowledge about government corruption and Obama's opposition to it and desire to end it.

"Isn't this splendid"???? If that is a good thing, then I must agree Obama is no TR, he is a much better human being. I do not think dying so that the USA can remain the largest global consumer of oil is a good thing. A good thing would be finding and using alternative sources of energy which are already being used in countries such as Brazil. I would not know what is being done in Brazil if I had not read the Senator's book, "Audacity of Hope". He wants to implement ideas like that in the USA rather than sending young people out to kill or be killed. That is the old fashion way of doing things. It is 2007 and it is about time we all start understanding the meaning of Mutually Assured Destruction. War begets hate begets war.

It disappoints me that such an ignorant comparison is being made. Go ahead and praise Obama, that's fine, but don't compare him to a man who looked down at a fellow dying solder in battle and said "Isn't this (dying for country) splendid?" I'm sorry, Obama is no T.R. not even close.
