How to Start a Stay at Home Mom's Group

Stay at home moms groups are a great way to meet new friends for you and your children. They are also helpful in making a local support group for stay at home mom's in your area. The Mom's Group I am currently a member of has been a lifesaver. Anyone that chooses to stay and home and raise their children should be a member of a Mom's group.

There are nationwide Mom's Organizations such as MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers). Unfortunately they are not available in all areas and are geared towards moms with preschoolers. Starting your own Mom's group enables you to reach mom's in places where there are no existing groups. You can then make your own rules and mission statement.

The first steps you to take when starting a stay at home moms group is to choose a name and write a mission statement. This allows you to keep a certain type of focus to your group. Be creative with your name! Make it cute and catchy, something that will look good on a flyer or a poster. A mission statement should be brief and precise. For example, if your focus is for home schooling mom's, you could say: The purpose of (name of group) is to help stay at home moms raise and home school their children.

Next, get the word out. Make some flyers and posters to put up around town. Pick a day to have an informal play day at a park where you can meet other moms and start to set up your group. Put the flyers in places where you know mom's frequent such as schools, libraries or grocery stores. Some newspapers will print a small ad for cheap or free. Make sure to email everyone you know with the date and time. Once you have your play day, discuss with the other moms what you would like your mom's group to accomplish.
