This literature cluster revolves around the book Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. Though it is a fictional book, the story told holds a lot of truth. In this book, life in Copenhagen, Denmark is much different for everyone living there. The Nazis have arrived and the Jewish citizens must live in fear of capture. A young girl, named Annemarie Johannesen, and her family help to hide her Jewish best friend Ellen Rosen from the Nazis. This was a very dangerous situation for everyone involved. Ellen's family was luckily "relocated" and managed to escape the torture of the concentration camps. I chose this book for this literature cluster because I found it really intriguing, and I wanted to learn more about this aspect of Jewish history. I also felt that I could find a great deal of literature that would connect well to this book.
