8 out of 10 Prefer Gift Cards

Many people have a fear of purchasing presents for friends and family members. They are afraid of purchasing an item the recipient will not want. As a result of this fear and for convenience reasons gift cards have become very popular. Many people think of gift cards around holiday season. What might surprise many people though is the result of a recent survey that Cardways.com conducted. In a press release they released the results indicate that 81% of us prefer to receive gift cards for our birthday over any other present. There are other interesting results of the survey as well.

The age group that prefers to receive gift cards the most is not your teenage kids as many might guess. Instead it is adults in the 35-54 age group according to the survey. Many men claim that women can be harder to buy for when choosing gifts, and that might be true considering that in the survey more women preferred gift cards than men. Finding that perfect gift for the woman in your life might be giving them the ability to choose it themselves. The survey also revealed other interesting facts about gifts that weren't necessarily centered on gift cards themselves.

It was discovered that men tend to spend more money on gifts for their spouses or significant others compared with women who tend to spend larger amounts of money on gifts for their children. Men and women also differ in the types of gifts they prefer to receive if they do not get a gift card. The favorite gifts men have other than gift cards are electronics or tickets for entertainment shows and sporting events. Meanwhile, women tend to prefre clothing and cosmetics. E-commerce purchases are more commonly made by men, while women still tend to visit malls and other brick and mortar retail locations.

Sometimes, even the most thoughtful among us forget a birthday. In the survey it was revealed that seven out of the ten participants in the survey forgot someone's birthday at one time or another. What might surprise people is that the least likely age group of respondents to forget a birthday were those that were over 65 years old.
