The American Diabetes Association announced in a press release that it has received a most generous donation from the Order of the Amaranth in the amount of $500,000. This latest donation from the Order of the Amaranth has now brought their total amount given to $8.5 million since 1979.

"We are thrilled with the level of support the Order of the Amaranth has provided ADA and our constituents over the years," said Don Wagner, Chair of ADA's Research Foundation in the press release. "This latest gift is a crucial element in ensuring that we continue to fund the most cutting-edge research in diabetes that will result in new and better treatment options, and one day, a cure."

The Order of the Amaranth is a "social, fraternal, and charitable organization whose membership is open to both men and women with a Masonic affiliation," according to www.amaranth.org. The Amaranth Diabetes Foundation Trust was created in 1972 as their charitable project and all funds raised go directly to diabetes research grants. It is unique in that no expenses are ever removed from the funds before donation. 100% of the money goes to the American Diabetes Association.

The latest half million-dollar donation was presented to ADA's Chair of the Board and Research Foundation Member, Darlene Cain, during the Order of the Amaranth's International Conference in Indianapolis. The donation is a result of the very hard work and dedication of over 27,000 Amaranth members nationwide. Various fundraising endeavors that helped raise the money include galas, auctions, golf tournaments, and grassroot sources.

"The members of the Order of the Amaranth have made fundraising for diabetes research a personal priority and we now have a greater understanding of what it takes to support vital research in this area," said Shirley Tyner, President of the Amaranth Diabetes Foundation, Inc. "To say that we are focused is an understatement. We are committed to the diabetes cause and we feel it is a real pleasure to be a part of something that reaches far beyond self."
